Voice restoration
Following removal of the larynx and vocal cords, there are different ways of becoming
able to speak again. The highest priority, as confirmed again and again by the specialists,
is by means of oesophageal speech, but the patients who have undergone laryngectomy
must themselves decide. The procedure makes hands-free voice articulation possible,
even with reduced volume. To learn oesophageal speech, patients place themselves in
the professional hands of a speech therapist or take advantage of one of the voice-training
seminars on offer.
There are additional possibilities of restoring the voice, e.g. electronic speech-aid
(electro-larynx) or prosthesis (voice-shunt).
The following pages show a large selection of different products.
